A Note from the Artist...

Lauren's work ‘Tree of Life’ was painted using the medium of acrylic on canvas. The painting was inspired by the scripture in Revelation 22:2 “…And the leaves on the tree are for the healing of nations.” In this particular scripture, the leaves are an extension of the tree of life which is pictured in the painting with a river rushing forth from it- the water of life. In a specifically Australian context, hinted at by a type of rock formation in the background commonly found in Australia, the leaves on the tree in the painting are dedicated to the healing of our First Nations. It is both a dream and a prayer, to see the restoration of all peoples in Australia, but the leaves on this particular tree are for the healing of our nations. In many ways, this painting could be listed under the banner of all our mission intentions; but the one it correlates with the best is building healthy communities. Not only do the vibrant colours embody health, but the image also suggests that the ultimate healthy community is the realised Kingdom of God. The painting plays with a number of different textures and shapes; with the most emphasised texture being on the leaves as the centre of the painting.
