Beginning Brass
Leadership Training
The Beginning Brass Leadership training resource has been created by the Music and Arts Leadership Academy (MALA) to support beginning brass programs like Just Brass and the Coordinators and Tutors who lead them. This free, self-paced online course is designed to equip you with practical tools, fresh ideas, and renewed confidence for leading beginner brass programs with clarity, consistency, and care.

Across 29 engaging lessons, the course explores effective rehearsal strategies, curriculum planning, group management, instrument care, and the leadership skills needed to help young beginners thrive. Whether you’re new to Just Brass or bringing years of experience, this resource exists to support and resource you — and to affirm that what you do truly matters to the young people, families, and communities you serve.
